It's all about them Herbs! ~ May 2015

Herbs!  You have to love them... they can really make your dish pop!  Once again the Cooking Club Gals brought it home with an array of herbs used in both savory dishes and dessert!  There is so much to do with herbs... grow them.... cook & bake with them...  serve up a drink or two with them... dry them.... medicinal uses!  If my schedule allowed I would have loved to have an array of herbs for all to pot up and take home. Hmmm... and idea for next time!

A few herbs seemed to be a popular choice ~ mint, parsley, marjoram!  Each used differently to create  fabulous dishes.

Mint:  So we kicked things off with mojitos!  Fresh mint... good rum, lots of lime and a hint of sweetness - so yum!

Basil & Parsley: both herbs were used in grilled shrimp - thank you Ina for this fabulous and easy recipe!

Marjoram: both Cindy and Jen used this tender herb which is similar to oregano.   Marjoram can be used for seasoning soups, stews, dressings and sauce.

Cindy picked her own home grown asparagus and made a rice pilaf dish.  She also made a fun dip she made with marjoram with served with vegetable chips in a whimsical boat dish.  I somehow missed taking a picture of this!

Jen used marjoram in a veal and tomato sauce dish served in this beautiful platter... almost too pretty of a dish to eat!

Parsley & Cilantro: Denise made a fresh salad of chopped tomatoes, feta and herbs...

Parsley & Mint:  Nina's tabbouleh was a healthy vegetarian dish made with finely chopped parsley, mint, tomatoes, bulgur and red onion.... seasoned with olive oil and lemon juice.  Very yummy and was lunch for the next couple of days!

Rosemary: Betty's honey & rosemary chicken wings were as pretty as they were yummy... sticky sweet yummy goodness.

Tarragon: We had chicken with cream and tarragon... so creamy and delish!  Thank you Jeanne!

Dessert was highlighted with lavender and basil!  Who would have thought?

Basil:  Angi made a peach & basil crumble... served warm with a drizzle of cream.

Lavender:   Betty's shortbread lavender cookies were so cute and dainty... perfect to serve with tea!  However, we can confirm they went quite nice with the citrus flavor of mojitos....
