An evening spotlighting the sweet sap from a maple tree.... maple syrup! All those patient sugar makers who can draw the amber sap from a tree and create this golden goodness! There are different grades of syrup Fancy, Grade A Medium Amber, Grade A Dark Amber and B. The darker color ambers are more robust in flavor and are ideal for cooking and baking.... or sipping!

Cindy passed around maple glazed sausages... simple yet yummy. They would actually make a great appetizer for breakfast or brunch.
Denise made a maple gazed pork shoulder... specifically Matilda, Maple and Garlic Pork Shoulder with Crispy Skin. After cooking for 18 hours!!! The pork looked just like recipe picture... a dark crispy skin with the moist pork just beneath. Simply relish!

As an accoutrement to go with the pork Denise served this fabulous Fennel & Red Pepper Chow Chow Salad. The salads freshness - with the tart cider vinegar was a great side with the pork.

Cindy's Bacon, Maple & Cheddar Biscuits were awesome! They were a little salty with a hint of sweet -moist and flavorful. I'm not sure of her exact recipe.... but this looked similar (Cheddar Bacon Buttermilk Biscuits).

Jeanne brought maple baked beans made from navy beans. I much prefer the smaller beans than those large red kidney beans!

Denise serving the pork... no knife necessary as the pork just shredded so easily. Did I mention it cooked 18 hours!?!?!

For dessert we had maple pecan cupcakes... ground pecans in both the batter and icing gave it a nice nutty flavor that went wonderful with the maple syrup. Little powdered sugar was used for the icing sweetness... most was the maple syrup.
